  • God's gracious gifts

    Greetings to all ~

There have been a lot of changes since my last post.  In early June, John and I discovered we were parents!  We were soooooo happy and excited about the precious life growing inside me!  I started a new blog: www.Godsgraciousgifts.blogspot.com to share the progress of our baby and other blessings in our life together.

The gifts we receive from God are so much more than we deserve.  The truths contained in Romans 11:33-36 are very dear to me after the loss of our baby on August 9th.  The pain John and I experience is very deep, but the love and tenderness we have felt from others has helped carry us through.  We are surrounded with praying, caring people and this has been such a sweet gift from God!

Please keep us in your prayers as we continue to heal physically and emotionally.  At each step, we have seen God's goodness to us and we are excited about what He has in store!

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable His judgments, and His paths beyond tracing out!
Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been His counselor?
Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.
To Him be the glory forever! Amen
    Romans 11:33-3

  • Life through the lens

Greetings   It's been quite awhile since I've updated.  We have limited internet access and I thought you might tire of daily reading "John is So WONDERFUL" etc. (jfyi, he is SO WONDERFUL!!!)    So here it is, a visual diary of what's been going on:

    WONDERFUL John and HAPPY me:

  • The 4 Types of models

    The Clown:
He has a face for every expression and will demonstrate each one for you during the shoot. Though it is hard to capture the one you are looking for, you will certainly end up with many to make you laugh.

    Keys for success:
Enjoy it! Laughter isn't always a part of a photo shoot, stay happy and Clown will stay happy too. Follow his natural bent. Obviously I did not tell him, "open your eyes and tilt your head" but I love his result.

    The Angel:
Eager to please and happy to smile sweetly, she is naturally photogenic and willing to pose as you capture the ideal picture.

    Keys for success:
Give her as much time as she wants. She wants to know she is doing a good job and will bloom in your praise. Angel's may enjoy a variety of poses and props as long the center of attention remains on her.

    The Reluctant:
Shy and scared of the camera, it is very hard for Reluctant to relax and smile. Each suggestion is an added stress and increases her mortification.

    Keys for success:
Keep the shoot short and light. Shoot where she feels the most comfortable and give her space. Request as little as possible.

    The Eager:
Very willing to smile big for a short time. Eager is ready to smile for you and then go on his way; he has more important things to do.

    Keys for success:
Keep it as short as possible. Your best pictures will probably be the first few you take since Eager's willingness will deteriorate over time. Eager works best when he knows what is expected of him and desires to leave a good impression. Be clear, be quick, be done.

    The Result:

Note: I am deeply embarassed by the shadows behind the boys heads.
Whenever possible I do not use the flash but in this case, it was my only option.

  • Living happily

     God is good

Wow, it's been a loooooong time since I've been on here!  Life has been very beautiful, very full.  John is amazing, so kind, so gentle, so loving.  He blesses me so much!!!  I didn't realize how enjoyable marriage would be!    I've never had a friend who lived really close, now I get to spend every day with my best friend.  Even before we were married, John always made me feel so comfortable, and now that we are husband and wife (I still get a thrill out of saying that!) it feels like we've always been married.  But that doesn't mean life is boring.  Each day has something special and something to laugh about!

I have an enormous pile of pictures to wade though, I still haven't looked at all the pictures from our wedding.  I don't want to overwhelm you with a post packed with pictures so I've tried to pick just a few that haven't been posted someplace else (John's sister Sharon, posted some of my favorites from the wedding on her blog; I also I have more pictures in my photo blog).  Sometime, I'll tell you more about our wedding, honeymoon, and cabin.  Until then, here is a sneak preview:

  • How good is God?

I don't always Feel God's goodness. Things happen that I wish would not, and things I wish would not happen, happen. Sadly, it is Very Easy to forget the goodness of God so I am writing this down to raise my Ebenezer, my standing stone, my reminder of what God has done.

A bit of background: John and I have decided that we do not want to go into debt. We decided this before the troubles with the economy. We have never gone into debt before marriage, and have seen too much pain from those who went into debt after marriage. Despite what you may think, we are not millionaires (shocker, I know ) and so we are doing things quite differently and cutting out what we don't need (don't worry, John can do ANYTHING).

One thing we thought we could cut out, is a honeymoon. I know, it's tradition, but keeping every tradition has not been high on our priority list. [I cannot begin to tell you, how WONDERFUL it will be to get to spend Every day, and Every night with this AMAZING MAN God has blessed me with! This gift will be bliss in ANY location] But then, my dad, talked to his boss about a condo (at a certain location to be announced at a later date) and discovered that we could use it for a week for around the price of one night in a hotel!  Sounded beautiful, but getting a flight and a rental car added up to quite a chunk of change. To make a long story short, God provided a great deal and we purchased it the 13th.

And guess what? This is the part that overwhelms me... John received a check (specified for our honeymoon) in the mail from some friends for the Exact Amount we paid for the condo, flight, and rental car!!!   I am just overwhelmed at God's goodness to us. I'm blessed even more, because I wasn't expecting this. And this is just one thing, one thing He has done to Bless us. So many people have invested time, energy, support, prayers, and poured love into us. I am so very grateful!!!

God blessed me in another way as well: Today, we picked up my sister Sara and her family from the airport!  God prepared a way for them to arrive back in the states, before our wedding!!!  Thank you so much for your prayers!!!

    How good is God?

"Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth;  who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin..."

    Exodus 34:6,7a

  • 30 days

30 days from today John and I will be Husband and Wife   So happy!!

John is away tonight.  He will be away until Friday night.  He has a job a few states away and the house feels empty without him even though there are people around.

John has been up quite a bit working on our cabin.  It started out as only a shell, but he and others have been working so hard to finish it.  I'm so proud of him, he has done such a good job figuring it all out.  Something I really appreciate about John is that he has such a CAN DO attitude.  It doesn't matter what it is, give John the impossible, and somehow he makes it possible!

Wedding planning is moving along, mostly because of Sharon's organization!  I'm so grateful for her help!  Life is an interesting mixture of wedding planning, cabin preparation, and car shopping.  My car [Helga] was totaled while someone else was driving it so that has been an interesting mix to all the other details.

Please keep my sister Sara and her family in you prayers.  They are still in Honduras and there is A Lot of heavy flooding.  They are planning to fly home in a few weeks (Sara is my matron of honor) but the roads are washing out and the supplies are running low.

    Wedding Sampler

Time seems to fluctuate between flying and crawling.  When I look at all the things that need done (there is a very long list) time goes waaaaaay toooo fast.  But when I look at how many days there are till 11.28.08 (the date John and I begin wedded bliss), 57 sounds like an excessively large number!

It was a sweet blessing to have John's sister Sharon up for 3 weeks.  The woman is an angel.  Despite various other things that kept her very busy, she was also able to finish making the paper for our wedding invitations (sometime I'll have to tell you how we did them, they have been embossed by lace), helped make 3 batches of soap (amazing that lard and lye end up as soap) (this is the first step in making [some kind of splendid] soap for wedding favors), and calligraphied (no clue how that is meant to be said) ALL the envelopes for our wedding invitations!  She is Amazing (it runs in the family hehe)

My mom has been doing a phenomenal job with my wedding dress.  She is hand embroidering the top with thread and glass beads... incredible

photos I took of their work:

    *--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*

whew, I've been so behind at keeping this up to date and my commenting has pretty much stopped completely, sorry   Life continues to be very beautiful and with heaps of blessings as I prepare the details for our wedding, moving out, setting up a house, and becoming a wife.

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity.  John was also able to come up for almost three weeks   I can't even tell you how Wonderful it is to be able to communicate face to face vs. over our cell phones!  The cell service here is so weak that the only way we are able to talk is if I sit in a chair in the window but even then it often fades out.  I am So Grateful for the time we had together, I will be so happy when we don't have to say goodbye again!

My sister Sara and her family came home from Honduras for two weeks.  It was great to have them here even though it went by way too fast.  Sara and my mom began sewing my wedding dress!  They have done a phenomenal job especially considering that I kept changing my mind  and they didn't have a pattern, just a picture of something close to what I want.  It isn't finished yet, but the main part is done and it is so beautiful!  I feel like a princess in it

Other events of the past weeks:

A surprise bridal shower given by my church (such a sweet surprise!)  I had no idea they were planning it and I was so touched by their generosity.

A precious new niece!  I was invited to attend the birth of my brother and sister-in-law's newest daughter with my camera   She was born on 8.28.08 at 8:28 a.m.

Cousin's Day, the day for all my nieces and nephews to get together and enjoy life and each other:

    Greetings and Salutations

G'day!  Hope your days have been full and sweet.  Life keeps flying by.  Today's news of lasting significance?  John is Amazing!

Yesterday was such a neat date: 08.08.08.  So neat in fact that John and I had pondered over getting married that day.  We then looked at all the things to get together and decided to wait.  God is so good!  We were planning a garden wedding (which would have been lovely) but thankfully we did not get married yesterday because it Poured rain most of the day.  Quite a shock indeed considering it has rained almost every day for weeks.   Everything is so nice and green.

God is so good, I've been reading an incredible, life-changing book by Debi Pearl titled: Created to Be His Help Meet.  [see currently reading] Whew, it is soooooo good.  I Highly recommend it.  Mrs. Pearl does an excellent job at conveying truth in a very applicable way.  She can be very blunt but she doesn't come across as harsh or unloving.  Her point is backed up by Scripture, quite the blessing ~

Wedding plans are still happening but so far, all information is classified, more to come later

I've got to run to dinner ~
